Many of us are attracted to the fire but not so much the people who are gathered around the fire. It's understandable in a way. Yet if we stand at a distance because we aren't too sure about joining the circle of people seated around the fire, we don't receive as much warmth and light as we would if we came closer. In the same way, for various reasons, we may resist getting involved in a group of disciples (a church). Yet God wants us not only to draw near to Him but also to the others sitting in a circle around Him. It may be uncomfortable in ways, but it will help us grow as His disciples.
